Paint3D 1.3 has been released!

Postby Atomic » Tue Apr 20, 2010 10:32 pm

Changes:

    • New image/selection operations and improvements:
      • Mirror
      • Hollow
      • Trim Borders
      • Better Scale dialog
      • Rotate now supports arbitrary angles

    • All image/selection operations now use Back Color instead of transparent white as "empty", for the sake of consistency

    • Scripting improvements:
      • Added an automatically populated Run Script menu
      • Updated IronPython from 2.6 to 2.6.1
      • Scripts no longer have to use decimals when constructing colors: Color( 128, 23, 56, 255 ) now works

    • Added Auto Switch Axis option and improved Auto Switch Side

    • Snap Interval can be configured

    • Added optional collision checking while walking the camera

    • Added a Voxel Scale setting on 3MP files to allow non-cubic voxels

    • Added DEFLATE compression to 3MP

    • Added export to V3B format and import/export to KV6 format

    • Added Merge coplanar faces option to OBJ exporter

    • Opening 3MP files directly from the browser now works correctly

    • Clipboard improvements:
      • Added Copy To File and Paste From File (2D and 3D, works with transparency when available)
      • Cut/Copy/Paste can handle much larger selections
      • Cut/Copy/Paste in 2D automatically turns the image to face "up"

    • Selection grid now looks correct with transparent plane (other transparencies are still wrongly ordered, though)

    • Added Rotational Extrusion tool

    • Added Global and Alpha options to both Fill and Magic Wand tools

    • Grow/Shrink improvements:
      • Should be much faster now
      • Speed is now selectable
      • Not-round should make more sense now

    • Added a preview to the Line tool to allow easier size selection and changed it to interpolate between the sizes used on the first point and the second point, allowing you to draw limbs, cones and pyramids easily

    • The tool button for the active tool stays pressed so you can identify which tool you're using

    • Added shortcuts to go to slice in Nearest Voxel mode and to rotate axes around the target voxel (they are advanced functions and have no interface buttons)

    • Added lots of shortcuts, hover the mouse over the interface controls to view them (some of the old shortcuts had to be changed)

    • Palette improvements:
      • Palette now saves/loads automatically and can be saved/loaded on the Palette Options button (note that P3P is not meant as a future proof format)
      • Palette can be resized vertically to add more color rows
      • You can drag/drop colors to copy or swap (hold Shift while dragging)
      • Dragging a color to the New Color button copies it and dragging to the Delete Color button deletes it
      • Clicking on the New Color button adds the Front Color to the end of the palette and clicking on the Delete Color button deletes the last color of the palette
      • Double clicking on a color allows you to edit it

Awesome! Hopefully you work more on the coplanar thing, though, so it's even better.

What other programs can open up v3a v3b vox or kv6? I've tried googling it, can't seem to figure it out.

It certainly can be improved and maybe I'll do it in the future but it's not a high priority right now. I've tested it against 3ds max's optimize and it generally gave better results (probably because max's is a more general form of optimization) so it should be pretty usable.

V3A and V3B are used in Voxel3D.

VOX and KV6 are used in many of Ken Silverman's voxel projects including a full blown game engine. If you're looking for a nice way to voxelize meshes you can use his POLY2VOX to generate a KV6 and import it into Paint3D (I intend to add my own voxelizator to Paint3D eventually).

I've also seen other voxel related programs on the net that support these formats but I don't have a list.

I was just having problems with the amount of verts again. I don't think it's a problem with P3D, but how Unity imports them. If I import first into Blender, save it as a .blend, then import into unity I get less verts, or whatever.

Yeah, right. The only thing bigger in Voxel3D is the 189 USD price tag ;)

:D That's about as much as I've just paid for an upgrade to Photoshop CS5. Voxel3D must be one hell of a voxel editor. ;)
